The Xiamen Kinmen Bridge Xiamen Section recently completed a heavy lifting operation for the Guanyinshan Interchange main bridge.
To protect the marine ecosystem and coastal landscape, this project adopted a large span double rib arch bridge structure.
The construction executed in the middle of the sea tested the limits of modern civil engineering.
The key technical highlights are as follows.
Massive Lifting Weight
A massive steel arch rib midsection weighing 10400 tons was lifted as a single unit.
This exceeds the previous record of 6800 tons for similar bridge structures.
Millimeter Level Precision
After lifting this colossal structure 30 meters into the air, the closure gap was controlled with a precision of just 1 millimeter.
Smart Synchronization System
To overcome offshore environmental challenges such as strong winds and thermal expansion caused by temperature variations, the team utilized 3D laser scanning and a multipoint synchronous smart control system.
Schedule Reduction
The entire assembly and lifting of this massive structure were completed in just 137 days.
The heavy lifting method minimizes high risk offshore high altitude work.
By assembling components at a lower level and using hydraulic jacks to lift the entire structure simultaneously, it maximizes both project safety and precision.
