Korea Expressway Corporation has introduced an innovative AI based bridge maintenance software named Dr.Bridge.
This system is a customized AI developed by learning from 50 years of accumulated bridge maintenance data.
When a worker takes a picture of a damaged part of a bridge with a smart device on site and uploads it, the AI immediately diagnoses the defect.
Beyond simple damage recognition, its core feature is the real time calculation of repair methods and estimated costs.
Since the introduction of Dr.Bridge, the time required from defect diagnosis to prescription has been reduced by 97 percent compared to previous methods.
For high piers or the undersides of sea bridges that are difficult for humans to access, it operates in conjunction with a quadruped robot named Watchdog to perform precise unmanned inspections.
The combination of robots and AI overcomes the limitations of visual inspections and fundamentally prevents worker safety accidents.
The main specifications and inspection criteria of the bridges processed by Dr.Bridge are as follows.
Concrete and steel bridge crack diagnosis: Automatic detection and width recording of microcracks in units of 0.1mm.
Main span and total length safety evaluation: Support for load limit state simulation of long span bridges over 1000m.
Deterioration classification by member: Calculation of condition grades for about 800 detailed items including piers, pylons, and cables.
Real time behavior data integration: Analysis of bridge vibration and displacement due to wind load and vehicle traffic.
Preemptive maintenance through advanced technology is the most certain way to respond to aging infrastructure.
This software will become a new global standard in the field of structural maintenance by combining with digital twin technology in the future.
