One of the largest bridge concessions in U.S. history will hand design, construction, financing and upkeep to a single consortium for half a century.
Crews broke ground in late April on a replacement for the 1950s-era I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge in southwest Louisiana, a corridor carrying commuters, regional industry and national freight. The new span adds three lanes plus an auxiliary lane, full shoulders, a gentler grade and all-electronic free-flow tolling.
What sets the project apart is its delivery: a public-private partnership in which an ACCIONA–Sacyr–Plenary consortium will design, build, finance, operate and maintain the crossing for 50 years, a total investment of about $3.37 billion. State officials estimate it will support more than 16,000 jobs over its lifecycle.
